Goddard were playing coaches for the first team which was put together by quarterback Arthur Carroll, who in turn volunteered to make the pants for the team and later became a tailor. He ended up as the Trojans' leading tackler in 2003. But he was not selected because of a judicial stay on that ruling, which was then overturned.
